Flunitazene
Found in:
Fentanyl
Type/Reason added:
Nitazene
Relative Potency:
About the same as morphine (18)
Treatment Options
Supportive Care:
Oxygen supplementation and airway management.
Antidote:
Naloxone is needed to reverse respiratory depression. Due to Flunitazene’s high potency, multiple naloxone doses may be required.
Pharmacokinetics and Dynamics
Metabolism:
Flunitazene is metabolized in the liver, likely involving cytochrome P450 enzymes. Its metabolites are excreted via the urine.
Drug-Drug Interactions:
Flunitazene has dangerous interactions with other central nervous system depressants, such as alcohol, benzodiazepines, or barbiturates, significantly increasing the risk of respiratory depression and fatal overdose. Drugs affecting liver enzymes (CYP450 inhibitors or inducers) may alter its metabolism and exacerbate its effects or toxicity.
