A synthetic opioid analgesic and a derivative of fentanyl. It belongs to the class of fentanyl analogs, often synthesized illicitly to bypass drug regulations. Like other analogs, it mimics the pharmacological effects of fentanyl, but with slight chemical modifications.

Methoxybutyrylfentanyl is less potent than fentanyl but remains significantly more potent than morphine. Its exact potency is not well-documented, though most fentanyl analogs range between 10–50 times more potent than morphine. Even small doses can have severe or fatal effects.
