Alicyclic Fentanyl Analogs
Found in:
Fentanyl, BZD
Type/Reason added:
Opioid effects
Relative Potency:
similar or lower potency than fentanyl (11)
Treatment Options
Supportive Care:
Immediate medical intervention is critical in the case of overdose. Supportive care includes securing the airway, providing respiratory support, and monitoring cardiovascular function.
Antidote:
Naloxone (Narcan) is the antidote for opioid overdoses, including those caused by alicyclic fentanyl analogs. Due to their high potency, multiple doses of naloxone may be necessary to reverse the effects of an overdose.
Pharmacokinetics and Dynamics
Metabolism
Like other fentanyl analogs, alicyclic fentanyl analogs are primarily metabolized in the liver, involving cytochrome P450 enzymes, particularly CYP3A4. They may have variable half-lives depending on their structure but are generally short-acting.
Drug-Drug Interactions
These analogs have a high risk of dangerous interactions with other CNS depressants, such as benzodiazepines, alcohol, and other opioids, increasing the potential for fatal respiratory depression.
