Ohmefentanyl
Found in:
Fentanyl
Type/Reason added:
Fentanyl Analog
Relative Potency:
6300 times stronger than morphine, 28 times stronger than fentanyl (12)
Description and Classification
Ohmefentanyl:
A synthetic opioid and a highly potent analog of fentanyl. It belongs to the ultra-potent opioid class, with an exceptionally high affinity for mu-opioid receptors. Structurally, it is similar to fentanyl but has been modified to enhance its analgesic properties. Originally developed for scientific research, it has no approved medical use in humans but has been investigated for its potential in anesthesia and pain management.
Relative Potency
Potency:
Ohmefentanyl is significantly more potent than fentanyl, with estimates suggesting it is up to 6,300 times more potent than morphine and about 28 to 100 times more potent than fentanyl, depending on the isomer. Even trace amounts can produce profound opioid effects, making it one of the most powerful synthetic opioids known.
Why It Is Added
Purpose
Ohmefentanyl was initially developed for research purposes, primarily in pain and opioid receptor studies. Due to its extreme potency, it has not been approved for medical use in humans. However, in illicit drug markets, it has been found mixed into fentanyl, heroin, and counterfeit opioid pills, posing a serious risk of accidental overdose.
