Found in:
Fentanyl
Type/Reason added:
Fentanyl analog, Opioid effects
Relative Potency:
N/A
Treatment Options
Supportive Care:
In the case of overdose, medical intervention is critical. This includes securing the airway, providing respiratory support (possibly intubation), and monitoring cardiovascular function.
Antidote:
Naloxone (Narcan) is the standard opioid overdose reversal agent and can be administered in cases of β-Hydroxyfentanyl overdose. However, multiple doses may be required due to the potency of the drug.
Pharmacokinetics and Dynamics
Metabolism:
β-Hydroxyfentanyl is metabolized in the liver, primarily through the cytochrome P450 enzyme system. It is converted into various metabolites, some of which may also be pharmacologically active.
Drug-Drug Interactions:
It has a high potential for dangerous interactions, especially with other opioids, alcohol, and central nervous system (CNS) depressants. These interactions can amplify the effects of respiratory depression, significantly raising the risk of overdose.
