Treatment Options
Supportive Care:
Monitor airway, breathing, and circulation. Provide oxygen if needed.
Antidote:
Flumazenil, a benzodiazepine antagonist, may be used to reverse effects in a controlled setting. It carries a risk of precipitating withdrawal or seizures.
Pharmacokinetics and Dynamics
Metabolism:
Diclazepam is metabolized in the liver via cytochrome P450 enzymes into active metabolites, including delorazepam and lorazepam, which contribute to its effects.
Drug-Drug Interactions:
There is a high potential for dangerous interactions with other CNS depressants, including alcohol, opioids, and other benzodiazepines, which can significantly increase the risk of sedation, respiratory depression, and overdose. Furthermore, combining diclazepam with serotonergic drugs can increase confusion or agitation.
