Routes of Administration and Effects

Administration: 

α-PHP is usually administered by insufflation (snorting), oral ingestion, smoking (often vaporized), or intravenous injection. Smoking is especially popular because the onset of effects is rapid, though it can cause severe respiratory damage.

Dosage and Effects: 

  • Primary Effects: Intense stimulation, euphoria, elevated mood, increased physical energy, and heightened mental alertness. Its stimulant profile is somewhat similar to methamphetamine but often described as "sharper" and more anxiety-inducing.

  • Adverse Effects: Sagitation and compulsive behavior, pronounced paranoia and anxiety, hallucinations, unconsciousness, hypertension, tachycardia and cardiac arrest, dehydration, nausea and vomiting, seizures, suppression of physiological function (such as urination), and rhabdomyolysis. Its aftereffects can cause depressed mood, irritability, headache, and insomnia (35).

Dose Range (oral):

  • First: 3-5 mg

  • Light: 5-15 mg

  • Normal: 10-25 mg

  • Strong: 25-40 mg

  • Very Strong: 40 mg+

Duration (oral):

  • Onset: 15-45 mins

  • Duration: 4-6 hours

  • After Effects: 4-10 hours

  • First: 2-4 mg

  • Light: 4-10 mg

  • Normal: 10-20 mg

  • Strong: 20-35 mg

  • Very Strong: 35 mg+

  • Onset: 5-15 min

  • Duration: 2-4 hr

  • After Effects: 4-10 hr

 

Dose Range (IV, Inhale):

  • First: 1-2 mg

  • Light: 3-6 mg

  • Normal: 6-15 mg

  • Strong: 15-25 mg

  • Very Strong: 25 mg+

 

Duration (IV, Inhale):

  • Onset: a few seconds/minutes

  • Duration: 30-90 min

  • After Effects: 2-5 hr

Information Regarding the Substance

Physical Description: 

Transparent to whitish or yellowish crystals, beige to brownish powder, granulated or ungranulated, has a flavor that tends towards bitter (35).

Side Effects:

  • Common: Feelings of stimulation, talkativeness, reduced appetite, increased physical endurance, and heightened sexual arousal. These effects can be initially pleasurable but frequently lead to compulsive use.

  • Severe: Psychosis (hallucinations, delusions), violent behavior, severe agitation, heart attacks, seizures, extreme paranoia, and kidney or liver injury. Chronic use can cause serious mental health deterioration and physical collapse.
