Description and Classification
N-Desethyl Etonitazene:
A synthetic opioid and an active metabolite of etonitazene, a potent benzimidazole-derived opioid. This class of opioids is structurally distinct from fentanyl and morphine but exhibits high affinity for the mu-opioid receptor, resulting in powerful analgesic and euphoric effects. It is considered an extremely potent opioid, significantly more potent than morphine and even fentanyl in some cases.
Relative Potency
Potency:
N-Desethyl etonitazene is believed to be several hundred times more potent than morphine. While precise potency data are limited, etonitazene itself is estimated to be 60-100 times stronger than morphine.
Why It Is Added
Purpose
It is often found in counterfeit pills or mixed with other opioids, contributing to the risk of accidental overdose. It is sometimes sold as a substitute for fentanyl or other strong opioids.
