THE J HEALTHCARE INITIATIVE
Acetylfentanyl
Found in:
Fentanyl
Type/Reason added:
Synthetic opioid, Fentanyl analog
Relative Potency:
30% of fentanyl, 16 times more potent than morphine (10,12)
Treatment Options
Supportive Care: Immediate medical attention is crucial. Supportive care includes maintaining the airway, providing ventilation, and monitoring cardiovascular function.
Antidote: Naloxone (Narcan) is the primary treatment for opioid overdoses and can reverse the effects of acetylfentanyl. Due to its potency, repeated doses of naloxone may be necessary to fully reverse an overdose.
Pharmacokinetics and Dynamics
Metabolism: Acetylfentanyl is metabolized primarily in the liver, involving the CYP450 enzyme system, similar to other opioids. The metabolites are excreted via the kidneys.
Drug-Drug Interactions: Significant risk of dangerous interactions with other CNS depressants, which can amplify its sedative and respiratory depressant effects, increasing the likelihood of a fatal overdose.
