4-Fluorofentanyl
Found in:
Fentanyl
Type/Reason added:
Synthetic opioid, Fentanyl analog / Opioid effects
Relative Potency:
analgesic potency:
about 30% of fentanyl (11), 16 times more potent than morphine (12)
Treatment Options
Supportive Care: Immediate medical attention is critical. Supportive care includes maintaining airway, breathing, and circulation.
Antidote: Naloxone (Narcan) is the primary treatment for opioid overdose and can reverse the life-threatening effects of 4-Fluorofentanyl. Due to its high potency, multiple doses of naloxone may be required to counteract the overdose.
Effects:
-
Opioid Effects: Similar to fentanyl, including intense analgesia, euphoria, sedation, and severe respiratory depression.
-
Adverse Effects: High risk of overdose and death due to its potent respiratory depressant effects. Other side effects may include drowsiness, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, and constipation.
Pharmacokinetics and Dynamics
-
Metabolism: Primarily metabolized in the liver, similar to fentanyl, likely involving the CYP3A4 enzyme.
-
Drug-Drug Interactions: Strong potential for dangerous interactions with other CNS depressants, such as alcohol, benzodiazepines, and other opioids, increasing the risk of life-threatening respiratory depression.
