Routes of Administration and Effects

Administration: Typically administered orally, but it can also be taken sublingually or, less commonly, via nasal insufflation (snorting).

Dosage and Effects:

Benzodiazepine Effects: Produces anxiolytic (anxiety-reducing), sedative, muscle-relaxant, and anticonvulsant effects. It also has antidepressant properties, though these are less prominent.

Adverse Effects: Common side effects include drowsiness, dizziness, impaired coordination, and memory problems. More severe effects can include respiratory depression, especially when combined with other CNS depressants.

Physical Description: Typically available as a white or off-white powder or in tablet form. It may also be found in liquid form in some illicit preparations.

Side Effects:

  • Common: Sedation, dizziness, impaired memory, and motor coordination, fatigue, and muscle weakness.

  • Severe: Risk of dependency, withdrawal symptoms, and potential for overdose, particularly when mixed with other depressants like alcohol or opioids.
