THE J HEALTHCARE INITIATIVE
Methoxybutyrylfentanyl
Found in:
Fentanyl
Type/Reason added:
Fentanyl Analog
Relative Potency:
N/A
Treatment Options
Supportive Care:
Airway management and assisted ventilation.
Antidote:
Naloxone can reverse opioid-induced respiratory depression but may require multiple doses due to the potency of methoxybutyrylfentanyl.
Pharmacokinetics and Dynamics
Metabolism:
Methoxybutyrylfentanyl is metabolized primarily in the liver by the CYP450 enzyme system, similar to fentanyl. Its breakdown products are excreted through the urine. Limited research is available on its specific metabolic pathways, but fentanyl analogs generally have short half-lives, requiring repeated naloxone administration for severe overdoses.
Drug-Drug Interactions:
Methoxybutyrylfentanyl interacts dangerously with other central nervous system depressants such as alcohol, benzodiazepines (e.g., diazepam, alprazolam), or other opioids. These combinations significantly increase the risk of respiratory depression, coma, and death. Care must also be taken when combined with serotonergic drugs, which may trigger serotonin syndrome.
