Description and Classification

Metizolam:

A thienodiazepine derivative, a chemical class closely related to benzodiazepines. It shares a similar mechanism of action with benzodiazepines, binding to GABA-A receptors to produce sedative, anxiolytic, hypnotic, and muscle relaxant effects.

Relative Potency

Potency: 

Metizolam is considered to be potent within its class. Its effects are similar in magnitude to traditional benzodiazepines like diazepam or alprazolam but may be longer-lasting. A small dose (0.5–2 mg) is sufficient to produce significant sedative effects.
